The officials are now taking steps to jam cell phones in jail to restraint the elevating business of drugs. The prison patrol are increasing their efforts in order to intervene the contacts of the drug dealers outside the jail and there business mates in the prisons.

The cellular phone service providers are ordained to move their network towers farther away from the confinement and signal jamming devices are installed in order to cut off any kind of connections through cell phones.The above mentioned measures are currently practiced in two jails namely the prison at Nakhon Ratchasima and that at Ratchaburi. The Chief of Correction’s Department Chartchai Suthiklom, said that, “These measures will also be adopted by other jails in the nation, once they are found successful, against the fight illegitimate drug handling.

The cellular phone service providers are asked to transpose their network sites. Cell phone signal jamming devices are installed in Nakhon Ratchasima at sikhiu district’s Khlong Phai prison and in Ratchaburi at Muang district’s Khao Bin prison.

Mr Chartai said that, ‘They want to treat the root of the problem and they want to cut off all kind of communications between the drug dealing criminals outside the bars and the traders trapped behind the bars.’

He said,’ That if their measurements proved successful they will be soon applied to other jails plagued with drug dealing. As the drug dealers try for every means to get mobile phones.’

The other three jails in Bangkok dealing with the same massive problem are those at Rayong, Nakhon si Thammarat and Phitsanulok. The phones are disguised by the visitors in hollowed out books, thrown in the jail compound. All these efforts are due to the increased rates inside the jail. The prices of illicit drugs can jump up to five times as compared to prices outside.
